Stationary

Stationary is an adaptive reuse project transforming a former movie theater in Glendale, California, into a flexible performance venue. Inspired by Rex Architecture’s Dallas Theatre project, the design incorporates fly towers and specialized mechanical flooring systems that allow the space to shift quickly between configurations. The static cinema typology is reimagined as an adaptable performance environment capable of supporting a wide range of theatrical and experimental productions.

The project features two fly towers and six distinct floor-based seating configurations, enabling continuous adjustment between performances. Cable-suspended balcony systems further expand this flexibility, allowing audience positions to be reconfigured in response to changing stage arrangements. Together, these systems create a theater that prioritizes adaptability, technical precision, and long-term reuse over fixed form.
