Ocean Chateau

Ocean Chateau

Ocean Château was an interior design studio project centered on designing a small-scale residence for an assigned, fictional couple. Students were asked to establish both the client narrative and the site, allowing the architecture and interior spaces to emerge from lifestyle, context, and atmosphere. I chose to situate my couple in the hills above Ventura, California, where expansive ocean views and coastal light became the primary drivers of the design.

The home was conceived in a French château style, interpreted through proportion, materiality, and spatial hierarchy rather than literal historic replication. A large, open living room anchors the house and extends outward to a generous deck, creating a seamless relationship between interior gathering spaces and the surrounding landscape. Designed for entertaining, the living areas frame the ocean as a constant backdrop, emphasizing views, light, and a sense of elevated retreat while maintaining the intimacy of a modestly scaled residence.
